When the going gets tough...

...I turn to music. The absolute democracy of the internet is bringing forward a whole new level of promotion and skill. A grassroots series of bloggers are contributing some of the sweetest mixes you will hear this side of... meh. The great guns are still the French... however... AUSTRALIA's Modular label is slowly sneaking into the limelight as a trendy contender for party rocking prangster of the year... Modular have crept well beyond Australia and snapped up The New Young Pony Club, Klaxons, Annie, MSTRKRFT, DFA 1979 to go alongside the already booming Sydney and Melbourne scenes...

Here are the people currently making my days interesting, a search for any of these names will yield much joy:

Digitalism, Justice, Simian Mobile Disco, SebastiAn, MSTRKRFT, Presets, Cut Copy, Midnight Juggernauts, Van She Tech, New Young Pony Club, Daft Punk, Erol Alkan, Trentemoller, Hot Chip, Valentinos, Tiga, Phones, the DFA, Jaques lu Cont, Soulwax, Spank Rock, Bang Gang DJs, Mystery Jets.

So Long Greg Wiggle

The Wiggles are currently riding high as Australia's top grossing performers. Bigger than AC/DC and Nicole Kidman combined. They wrote children's songs and performed on a gruelling tour schedule... today it was announced that Gerg 'Yellow' Wiggle has left the Wiggles due to a chronic condition known as orthostatic intolerance…

Put simply, it means that when Greg stands up, his heart does not compensate for the change in posture by pumping more blood around his body for it to function properly. A similar problem occurs when there is a change in the environment such as a warm room or hot weather.

This condition is causing problems with his walking, balance, speech and coordination. It relates to the proper functioning of the autonomic nervous system, which is the way the human body regulates things we don’t consciously have to think about such as heart beat and temperature regulation. Full respect to people whose life ambition is to make other people happy.

Bob Sinclair comes to Bahrain

Seems that big name DJs are coming quicker and faster to the tidy shores of Bahrain. I never would have picked it as a dance music central, however there are already three clubs importing UK/Ibiza DJs, and four huge names will grace our shores to hold outside concerts in 2006... there is a small, but growing, crowd of faithful electronic music fans over here... interesting.

  • Paul van Dyke - Marina Club, April, 2006
  • Ferry Corsten - Marina Club, September, 2006
  • ATB - Bahrain International Circuit, December, 2006
  • Bob Sinclair - Marina Club, December, 2006
