I dream of coffee...

I have to put this blog up as a special mention. Luka, a friend from Melbourne, has managed to take the phrase 'coffee nut' to a whole new level. This man talks about a whole bunch of fundamentally cool coffee related stuff. Read in awe:

Hehehe ... so you're that dot on my google analytics map!

Yeah, coffee stuff has accelerated to a crazy nuttola level since you were at my cafe in Jan 05. My boss sold that place and moved to a new cafe in the suburbs, where it was possible to compete on quality, rather than speed. He put his money where his mouth is and shelled out the megabucks for an absolutely amazing machine and we just learnt so damned much from using it. Espresso is uber sensitive to absolutely miniscule variations in grind particle size, dose and water temperature. The coffee industry as a whole has really only focused on researching this extreme degree of anality in the last few years, so it has just so happened that I started my part-time barista jobs at the dawn of a golden age!

I'm going to be taking up a new coffee job in about a month's time ... 'coffee nut' doesn't begin to describe it. Basically, my local roastery has been expanding for the past few years and has done really well in the wake of their representative winning the Australian Barista Competition. So they have bought the building next door and are setting up a sort of a 'cellar door' concept for coffee. There will be high-end domestic machines on sale, as well as commercial machines, we're going to do what I think that no-one else in the world has yet done - a 'roast your own blend' station! And, of course, it will be open just for a cuppa. My friend at Perth's barista academy today called and said 'hey, you're going to get to play with more cool toys that I do!'

Anyhoo, there's my coffee ramblings for today. I'll have to email you some non-coffee ramblings ;P

Cheers,

Luca
